The Metroon is the sanctuary of the Greek mother goddess, Meter Theon, on the Agora of Athens.
It was built in the second half of the 2nd century BC and served simultaneously as a sanctuary and state archive. Today, only a few architectural remains are preserved. Beneath the currently visible building lie the remains of the older Metroon, which was destroyed in 480/79 BC.
