This intramontane basin at an altitude of 900-950 m is a curious landscape in the mountain area of Lefkada. It's named the plateau of Englouvi. It also forms the mountain pass between east and west. But unlike many mountain passes that take you from ascent to descent, you stay here for a few kilometers at about the same altitude. The soils are thick and composed of fertile red clay from the decomposition material of the surrounding limestones. Those lands at high altitudes are therefore intensively used for agriculture. Traditionally, grain was cultivated here. This also has a link with the unique threshing floor complex at Agios Donatos .
