Here, the path is overgrown with tall juniper bushes, and you crawl through a corridor of plants. When the vegetation is taller than you, it's called maquis. You've undoubtedly heard the word maquisards for resistance fighters.
The Maquisards were so named because they hid in the dense undergrowth (French: maquis) of the French countryside to wage guerrilla warfare against the German occupiers during World War II. Their name directly refers to these natural refuges where they hid to organize and carry out the resistance.
Low shrubbery is called Phrygana (φρύγανα).
