Aasleagh

Aasleagh is the name of an Irish waterfall in northern Connemara. It is fed by the Erriff River and is located just before the river flows into the Killary Fjord, northeast of the village of Leenaun, on the border of the counties of Galway and Mayo. The name derives from the originally Irish designation Eas Liath. Eas means waterfall and liath refers to the color gray, which translates to "Gray Waterfall." The Aasleagh waterfall, just like the village of Leenaun, was the filming location for the 1990 film The Field starring Richard Harris.

Aasleagh is a popular photographic subject for visitors among the natural spectacles of Connemara. Near the waterfall is Aasleagh Lodge, a country house from the 18th century, which is now operated as a fishing lodge by the regional fisheries administration. The waters of the Erriff are famous for their salmon.
