This short, sweet circuit makes a perfect coastal loop, with wonderful seacliffs and stunning wildlife interspersed by several historic landmarks. Apart from the scenery, the other main theme centres around St Declan, a fifth-century saint credited with bringing Christianity to the southern part of Ireland.

Starting from the beach car park in the heart of Ardmore village, take the Cliff Road past the front of Cliff House Hotel. From the end of the road, a well-trodden footpath continues ahead. Climb gently along the cliff top, enjoying the maritime flowers and birds, backed by sweeping views across the bay.

The trail undulates past two coastal watchtowers, then follows a country lane back towards the village. You’ll pass St Declan’s old monastery before returning to the start.
