Description by the author

This route takes you through the pretty village of Emly, from here it's on to Hospital town. You may well wonder Why is hospital in Limerick is called hospital? The village acquired its name from the crusading Knights Hospitaller who built the archaeologically significant Hospital Church here before 1215. From here make your way to Lough Gur to enjoy the lake, visitors centre, fairy walk and much more. The lake forms a horseshoe shape at the base of Knockadoon Hill and some rugged elevated countryside. It is one of Ireland's most important archaeological sites. Read more here
