Villa Grassina

"The Villa Grassina will be the discovery of the year!" was the emphatic closing line of an email written by a notorious cycling enthusiast and Italophile, who has stayed here with his family about ten times.
It was in 2003. We had both turned 40 and were looking for a unique vacation spot in Italy... We are still grateful for it, just like to those other friends with whom we have shared so many beautiful moments.

The Villa Grassina has been completely reconstructed and refreshed as a vacation residence by the Terrenzi Family, who acquired the beautiful baroque building several decades ago.

However, the original building (actually a watchtower) dates back to the years after 1000, but it was especially enlarged when it served as a 'branch' of the Abbey of Vallombrosa. In the 14th century, it became a summer residence of the Florentine family Buondelmonti.

Simone Terrenzi and his wife Valentina now warmly welcome the many holidaymakers in about 30 apartments of various capacities with a "Tuscan" decor, sober and rustic, yet very authentic. Including the super thick walls and centuries-old supporting beams. It consists of a main building and several detached buildings (Torretta, Loggia...)

What do you NOT find in Villa Grassina?
* air conditioning and internet connection in the room

* an impersonal welcome
* excessive buffets that are kept warm or cold for hours,
* international dishes under the motto: the greasier, the better,
* stress on vacation,
* traffic nuisance,

* in August, there is almost every year a lot of cycling passion and knowledge present, along with much Flemish friendship and fun,
