The fort of Landro is a former Austrian fortification that rises at an altitude of 1500 m above sea level in the homonymous Val di Landro, in South Tyrol, near the former village of Landro, near Carbonin, a hamlet of Dobbiaco. The fort belongs to the great Austrian fortification system on the Italian border.
The fort was initially born as a work used to defend the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The fort was coupled with the fort Prato Piazza, together with which it had to prevent a possible infiltration from Cortina to Dobbiaco, then along the Val di Landro, of the Italian army. The two forts then formed a perfect pincer pattern, an arrangement often used by the Austro-Hungarian General Staff.
