The Frontone weather station is the reference weather station for the meteorological service of the Aeronautica Militare and the World Meteorological Organization, related to the location of Frontone and the corresponding hilly Apennine area.
The Frontone weather station began its operations on April 4, 1954, following the decommissioning of a pre-existing observatory located in Piobbico. The presence of the new station was necessary, both for the study and analysis of the climate of the corresponding area of the Umbro-Marchigiano Apennines and to carry out functions of assistance to air navigation.
