The Priory of Untermais of the Cistercian Abbey of Stams has existed since 1934 and is located in Meran-Untermais, South Tyrol, in the Diocese of Bolzano-Brixen in Italy.
The parish of Meran-Mais had, from 1272, several churches owned by the Abbey of Stams, including the later pilgrimage church of Maria Trost in present-day Untermais. In 1934, Abbot Stephan Mariacher from Stams founded the Priory of Maria Trost, which has served the parish of Untermais since 1969. Several abbots from Stams had closer relationships with the parish of Mais or Untermais. Edmund Zoz died there in 1706. Abbot Bruno Heinrich served as prior there from 1960 to 1968. Abbot Eugen Fiderer lived there from 1968 until his death. Abbot Josef Köll was prior in Untermais from 1974 to 1985 and died there in retirement. Father Eugen Mattersberger passed away as the last prior in 2014. The old priory building at Romstraße 136 was placed under monument protection in 1980 and is currently part of a new school complex for the municipality of Meran. The new rectory is being built in the former economic building.
