The Santa Cristina station was located along the Val Gardena railway serving the municipality of Santa Cristina Val Gardena.
The stop was activated after the opening of the line of competence: the construction was in fact slowed down by the complex excavation works of the nearby tunnel, designed to connect Santa Cristina to Selva di Val Gardena. To avoid that the delay would postpone the opening of the entire section, the designers therefore designed an unusual temporary route in the heart of the town: the trains, once arrived at the local parish church, had to stop, reverse direction by "regression" of the locomotive, and then leave for the next stop.
