Cavina Palace

The Palazzo Cavina is an 18th-century palace in Faenza in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna. It is located at Via Castellani 22.

The Baroque palace was built around 1740 under the direction of Raffaele Campidori for a branch of the Counts Naldi family. Above the portal made of Istrian sandstone, there is a balcony with a cast iron railing, in the center of which is the coat of arms of the Naldis. In 1814, Countess Lucrezia Costa, the widow of Count Romano Cavina, purchased the palace; she commissioned Felice Giani in 1816 to decorate two halls on the first floor. On May 14, 1882, Don Bosco visited Count Marcello Cavina, who was gravely ill, in this palace and brought him and his family peace and consolation. At the end of the 19th century, the palace was the seat of the Associazioni cattoliche faentine, before the Casa del Popolo was built in front of the palace in 1906. The Cavinas moved to their palace in Fognano, along with their collection of antique weapons, which had been set up in the ballroom. In the 1960s, the Italian garden behind the palace, which housed lemon trees, was sold and destroyed to build two apartments there. At the end of the 20th century, the Palazzo Cavina was comprehensively restored and renovated. A part of the original furniture from the palace can be seen today in the Palazzo Milzetti.
