Description

Through the famous Porta Flaminia at the Piazza del Populo Queen Christina of Sweden entered Rome in the big cavalcade the 23rd of December 1655. She had to look backwards to see the memorial tablet Bernini had fixed on the façade by order of Pope Alexander VII: FELICI FAVSTO Q(UE) INGRESSVI ANNO DCMMDCCLV (to a happy and prosperous entrance, Anno 1655). On the engraving: the cavalcade from Porta Flaminia to Saint Peters' Basilic. Queen Christina on horse in the second row, left from the middle under nr. 34.
