Church San Andrea - Siena

The church is located on Via Montanini in Diena.

It is already mentioned in 1175, the year in which Blessed Alberto da Chiatina, later archpriest of Colle di Val d'Elsa, became rector for two years, but it is more certain that it is mentioned from 1262 onwards.

The church has undergone significant changes over time. In the second half of the 18th century, the Romanesque temple was raised, modified by the addition of piers, arches and vaults inside, and completed at the front with the two-stage access staircase. Restoration work in the 20th century aimed to restore the medieval shapes of the gabled facade, bell tower and courtyard.
From the outside, the apse stands out as evidence of the primitive Romanesque forms.

In the interior, with a single nave, is a remarkable mid-15th century relief (Madonna and Child), possibly from the school of Jacopo della Quercia, a 15th-century monochrome fresco by Martino di Bartolomeo at the right altar (St. Anne, the Madonna and Child), a damaged 15th-century fresco of the Sassetti school on the left altar and, on the main altar, the polyptych depicting the Coronation of the Virgin between Saints Peter and Andrew by Giovanni di Paolo ( 1445). The church also contains two 18th-century canvases, such as the Scenes of Blessed Aldobrandesca Ponzi and Blessed Alberto da Chiatina by Apollonio Nasini.
