The town hall of Certaldo is located in Piazza Boccaccio.

Certaldo has been known for its special onions since the Middle Ages. Boccaccio, who else, already wrote about it in his Decamerone . The onion can even be found in Certaldo's coat of arms. There are two varieties: the “statina”, a round onion with a purplish color and a soft, sweet taste, and the “vernina”, an onion with an intense red color and a sharp taste. The statina is often used to make a typical product from Certaldo: marmellata di cipolla , an onion jam that is really delicious in combination with, for example, pecorino cheese.
