The Fontana del Tritone (Fountain of Triton) is a famous fountain located in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele. It symbolizes the city's rich artistic tradition and cultural heritage .
The fountain was designed by the Italian sculptor and architect Giovanni Angelo Montorsoli and was completed in 1576 . A masterpiece of late Renaissance art, it combines both architectural and sculptural elements.
The central element of the fountain is a statue of a Triton, a mythological sea creature with the torso of a man and the tail of a fish . The Triton is depicted lying on a shell and spouting water from its mouth. The statue is made of marble and is very detailed and expressive. The fountain is surrounded by a basin with gargoyles and other decorative elements. The whole is placed on a raised platform with steps , making the fountain a prominent feature in the square.
