The Porta Palermo is an eighteenth century historic city gate that gives access to the city center along Corso VI Aprile . It is located on Piazza Bagolino , which offers a wide view over the Gulf of Castellamare .
The gate contains 2 bronze bas-reliefs by the sculptor Nicola Rubino from Alcamo (1961). "Il poeta Cielo d'Alcamo alla corte di Federico II" and "Vita attiva di Alcamo" ("The poet Cielo d'Alcamo at the court of Federico II" and the "Active life of Alcamo") are rural scenes in the style of the Roman school, with symbolic figures. Nicola Rubino is undoubtedly one of the most important representatives of Italian art of the twentieth century.
