The watchtower was built in the 16th century and renovated in 1585. In fact, it was originally probably used for spotting tuna in a trap present in that area and called "Raisi Debbi" .
The tower later became part of the defense system of the Sicilian coast , partially integrating existing towers. he structure of the tower has a square plan, with three floors reached by an external staircase, leading to a terrace above, with a total height of approximately fifteen meters.
In case of danger, the torrari had to play the brogna (conch shell) and send signals (fani) from the terrace with smoke and fire to warn the other towers and the inhabitants of the hinterland of the impending danger.
Even today, older Sicilians remember the cry for help: Mamma, li tuchi, with whom barbarians and pirates identified. The panorama reaches from the Colombaia Tower of Trapani in the north to the Marausa Tower in the south.
On the horizon you can see the silhouettes of the three Aegadian islands : Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo.
