The church was built in the early years of the 17th century on behalf of the Jerusalem Knights, also known as the Company of Ten Thousand Martyrs.
The current structure shows a simple facade and the decorative motifs are reminiscent of the themes of martyrdom, such as palm trees and laurel. At the center of the structure is a stucco medallion containing Saint Acacius and his 9,000 soldiers who, along with another 1,000 pagans, were tortured by the Roman emperor because their conversion to Christianity was considered treason.
The structure is currently (2023) abandoned.
