The church was built between 1526 and 1617 by the Congregation of the Nation of Neapolitans, mainly from Cava dei Tirreni.
The entrance is in a trapezoidal portico . The Renaissance portal inside is interesting, decorated with columns, carvings, friezes and a semi-circular tympanum. The bright octagonal dome has an external cladding of light blue majolica tiles in various shades. The bell tower in the left nave consists of three curved cells.
The interior is divided into three naves by elegant arches on tall marble columns. The dome has a blue glazed brick exterior and lantern.
The beautiful 18th century stucco decoration covering the apse bowl, tympanums, chapels, dome corbels and side aisles is the work of Procopio Serpotta. The church retained some 18th-century furniture and paintings , some of which have been recovered, and was equipped with a beautiful organ, a late 16th-century work by Raffaele La Valle. Of the sacred furnishings, what remains today is a 19th-century wooden Madonna on the main altar.
