Description by the author

We park for free at the Piazza dei Macelli cemetery.

Certaldo consists of the more modern lower town and the higher medieval village (Alto).

First to the Piazza Boccacio (Certaldo is Boccacio's birthplace) with the Chiesa di San Tomaso and the Town Hall . After this short visit, it goes up to the old Certaldo, which cannot be reached by car without a permit.

We do not take the funiculare that goes every 15 minutes, but go on foot to the old Certaldo Alto. We take a 'long' way there to take the short but steep Costa Vecchia on the return.

It is possible to go by car and park in the car park in Certaldo Alto, about 100 meters before the entrance of the village. The road from the more modern lower town to the old town is beautiful.

The other option is to park your car in Piazza Boccaccio and then take the funicolare up there. This little train/cable car takes you up in a few minutes. You can see the lower town getting smaller from the train and before you know it you will arrive in Certaldo Alto.

Once you arrive in Certaldo Alto you will be surprised by the beautiful old town. It is as if time has stood still here.

Beautiful old buildings, all well maintained and you can see that people live here with love. The streets are brightened up by colorful flowers and there is a relaxed atmosphere.

It is a wonderful village to walk through, enjoy the beautiful architecture and the pleasant atmosphere.

The town consists of a main street (Via Boccaccio) where several small shops and bars are located.

Fun fact: you can get legally married in the courtyard of Palazo Pretorio and in the church next door .

Fun fact: at a panoramic point there is a sign that kissing is mandatory here.

Be sure to check out the sights on site! They explain what to see.
