Giro Dell'Orsiera G.O.

The Giro dell'Orsiera - G.O. - is a 6-day hiking itinerary in the Orsiera Rocciavrè Nature Park. A loop of about 55 km with stops at 5 mountain huts that create an efficient network of facilities, necessary to fully enjoy a demanding yet undoubtedly thrilling tour.
The stages start and end at the Borgata Molè in the municipality of Coazze (Val Sangone) and include overnight stays at the Balma (1986 m), Selleries (2035 m), Toesca (1711 m), Amprimo (1375 m), and GEAT Val Gravio (1376 m) huts. The itinerary is accessible to any moderately trained hiker, starting from any of its stages. The route is highly versatile and lends itself to interesting variations: for example, one can use the climbing trails to reach the huts from the valley floor and choose to hike only certain stages, or one can enrich the itinerary by staying more nights at a hut and taking advantage of the dense trail network nearby for short hikes between stages.
The G.O. winds along well-marked trails, with moderate elevation gains and frequent resting spots at bivouacs, by glacial lakes, and in pastures where one can taste local cheeses. It is essential to use a detailed and updated hiking map.
The itinerary reveals unspoiled nature just a stone's throw from Turin, offering a wide view of the various mountain environments, alternating between pastures, stony areas, larch forests, and beech woods, where, with a keen eye, one can spot chamois, deer, roe deer, wild boars, mouflons, ibexes, but also golden eagles, lammergeiers, kestrels, peregrine falcons, mountain pheasants, partridges, and quails, in addition to smaller wildlife.
The trek also satisfies those who love to learn about the history of the places while on vacation: along the Giro dell'Orsiera route, one encounters evidence of medieval history (Certosa di Montebenedetto) and the "little" stories of everyday life experienced by the shepherds and mountain dwellers who have populated these valleys for centuries (rock engravings, paved mule tracks, terraced slopes, rural villages, fountains, and irrigation canals).
From the panoramic points of the G.O., the view stretches as far as Superga, the Rocca di Cavour, Monviso, the Po Valley, the crystal peaks of the Écrins, Vanoise, Rocciamelone, and Lake Moncenisio.
The Giro dell'Orsiera is registered in the regional hiking cadastre managed by the Protected Areas Management Authority of the Cozie Alps, in collaboration with the municipalities involved (Bussoleno, Coazze, Mattie, Roure, San Giorio di Susa, and Villar Focchiardo) and in partnership with the involved huts.
