Saint Lawrence Church

Description

The Gothic Old St. Lawrence Church, with its two naves, dates back to the Middle Ages. Some sections of the walls still bear witness to the Gallo-Roman sanctuary that was once built at this site. This building was replaced by a pre-Romanesque church by the Merovingians (6th to 7th centuries). In the 11th century, a Romanesque church was built here, of which the tower (12th century) has been preserved to this day. The current nave dates from 1467. Frescoes from the 16th and 17th centuries adorn the interior. Excavations in 1960 uncovered the remains of a cemetery that lay beneath the church and likely dates back to the Merovingian period.
