Near the Kattengat you will find the Koepelkerk, which has now been partially converted into a hotel. The Koepelkerk is also known as the Round Lutheran Church. The building is the only Protestant church building with a circular floor plan in the Netherlands and of great architectural value.
The Lutheran community in Amsterdam experienced strong growth in the 17th century due to the arrival of immigrants from the Baltic region and Flanders. The result of that growth was the need for a larger church, of which you can see the result here.
