Nijkerkernauw

The Nijkerkernauw is one of the fringe lakes and is located between Gelderland and Flevoland. The lake borders in the northeast at the level of Nijkerk to the Nuldernauw and flows in the northwest, at the level of Spakenburg, into the Eemmeer. Together with the Nuldernauw, it is the narrowest fringe lake. The lake was formed in 1968 by the construction of Southern Flevoland. The Nijkerkernauw is separated from the Nuldernauw by a dam, which contains the Nijkerkersluis, over which the N301 runs. At the level of Nijkerk, the Arkervaart flows into the Nijkerkernauw. About two kilometers west of this point, the Wiel discharges. Here lies the pumping station that drains excess water from the Arkemheen polder into the Nijkerkernauw. The harbor of Spakenburg has a direct connection with the Nijkerkernauw. Off the coast of Spakenburg lies a large wreck cemetery of former fishing vessels.
