Hilversum Canal

Description

This canal was excavated around 1930 to create a necessary east-west connection between the Vecht and Hilversum. It was part of a complete access plan for this region, which also included the construction of the Provincial road that runs parallel to the canal. This plan was designed by chief inspector of the Public Works Department Anton Mussert, who would be dismissed from the Ministry in 1934 due to his NSB activities. His plans made the region much more accessible, which had a positive effect on economic development.
