Den Bosch has long been a religious center. Since 1853, it has been the seat of the bishop. Den Bosch is also the birthplace of the painter Hieronymus Bosch. He painted 6 altarpieces with scenes from the Old Testament for the cathedral. Unfortunately, those have been lost. As early as the 14th century, construction of this church began. The ground plan is strongly based on the cathedral of Amiens. The tower is a prime example of Brabantine Gothic. Additionally, there is a beautiful choir stall, a remarkable baptismal font made in 1492 by Aert van Tricht from Maastricht, and an exquisite Renaissance pulpit. The organ was moved to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
