Since 26 April 1986, a curious vessel has been moored in Rijssen. It is the Enterse Zomp, called the 'Regt door Zee'. The ship is located in the harbor at the Pelmolen which is located close to the river Regge. In the past, hundreds of people in the east of the Netherlands sailed across the Regge and Vecht, Berkel and Schipbeek to provide people with the necessities of life. Transport on country roads was often very difficult or impossible. The Zomp was functionally tailored to the requirements of it. If it was not possible to sail, a man must be able to tow the barge. It had to be easily manoeuvrable on winding rivers, have little draught (so have a flat bottom). The construction had to be strong and the barge had to have a decent load capacity (approx. 12 tons). The zompen were all built in Enter, in three shipyards. Two of them were managed by the Schuitemakers, who built thousands over the centuries. In 1795 alone, there were about 200 zompen in Enter.
