In the Schaapsteeg you can see on the corner house a wall stone with a white sheep. At the time when the dike was an important connection road to the north, there were many inns located along the dike. The White Sheep is a last reminder of one of the inns. According to legend, Napoleon was at the Kamperzeedijk. A number of French soldiers who had become lost in the fog in Mastenbroek were guided to the Kamperzeedijk by a bleating white sheep. (sheep always look for the dry ground after all).
