The small nature reserve De Enk is a remnant of a former river arm of the then unembanked IJssel towards the Zuiderzee. The water flowed over the area of Kamperveen that is now called the 'foreign land'. The construction of the Nieuwendijk dammed off the Enk and created a new transit route. The lands surrounding the Enk were very fertile, and a lot of valuable reeds and bulrushes grew there. The area is still a hay and reedland area with many pasture birds. In the summer, you may be lucky enough to see black terns or a hunting marsh harrier here.
