The inn Het Engelse Werk is located in a historically interesting place and a beautiful environment. The current Engelse Werk is situated on the remnants of a bastioned fortification, which was built during the Eighty Years' War. In the nineteenth century, around 1830, the beginning was made to develop a park at the Nieuwe Werk, 'a place for walking'. This park was named Het Engelse Werk after a change in the English landscape style. The municipality of Zwolle manages this national monument. From the terrace of the inn Het Engelse Werk, there is a beautiful view of the IJssel and the IJssel Bridge. This location is also a great starting point for a walk to the park or the floodplains with a birdwatching shelter. Opening hours: open from 10:00 AM during the summer period, and from 11:00 AM during the winter period. Closed on Mondays.
