Scheerwolde is still a relatively new village, established in 1952 and opened by Queen Juliana. She unveiled a memorial stone representing a phoenix on the wall of the then police station. The phoenix is a bird that, as they say, rises from its ashes. It is therefore not strange that this particular bird symbolizes the current Scheerwolde. Scheerwolde has also risen anew several times. Originally, the old 'Scaerwold' was located in this place.
