A very picturesque water village, actually two interconnected water villages, that for a long time enjoyed an idyll of peace, simplicity, and a unique atmosphere. The local population lived for many years off peat extraction. But when the peat ran out around 1920, they massively switched to reed cultivation. The double village was completely isolated from the outside world for a long time. In 1930, a bicycle path was established, but the real breakthrough came in 1959 when the road from Zwartsluis to Blauwe Hand was constructed.
