The sand ridge on which the hamlet of Sandfirden is built was originally lower than its surroundings. Surrounding it was a thick layer of peat that has subsided due to drainage, causing the sand ridge to protrude relatively higher compared to its surroundings. This is also referred to as an inversion ridge because it represents an inverse topography compared to the previous situation. Naturally, people chose to settle in these elevated areas to build villages and lay roads.
