Eastern Flevoland is the third reclamation or polder created as part of the Zuiderzee Works. The polder was established between 1950 and 1957 and provided the Netherlands with an additional 540 km².
Eastern Flevoland is surrounded by a set of fringe lakes that were once part of the Zuiderzee. Examples include the Ketelmeer, the Vossemeer, and the Veluwemeer.
Lelystad is the largest city in this polder.
