The highest river dune in the Alblasserwaard is the Schoonenburgsche Heuvel. It lies almost 4 meters above sea level and about 6 meters above the landscape. The hill is named after a medieval castle of the Lords of the Lek that is believed to have stood here. The dune is part of a series of river dunes in the polders of Streefkerk and Nieuw-Lekkerland. These dunes are thought to have been inhabited in the Stone Age. A flint axe was found here. The Schoonenburgsche Heuvel was classified as a geological and archaeological monument.
