During the Second World War, Hotel Des Indes was the headquarters of the German occupiers in The Hague. On the top floor of the hotel, the hotel management hid Jewish people in hiding, all of whom survived the war.

The hotel is also known for the "high-tea" that is served here during the day to (richer) ladies.
