Dokkum is a city in the Dutch municipality of Dongeradeel and has approximately 12,600 inhabitants. Dokkum is located on the border between the Kleistreek and the Friese Wouden, in the northeastern part of the province of Friesland. Dokkum is one of the eleven Frisian cities and serves as a regional service center for Northeast Friesland. The city is the 5th shopping city in Friesland and has the smallest hospital in the Netherlands (De Sionsberg). The Frisian dialect Noordhoeks is spoken around Dokkum.
