The Haagse Bos is a forest in The Hague, which runs cadastrally from the Malieveld to Landgoed Reigersbergen. It is an area of about 100 hectares and in the early Middle Ages was part of a large primeval forest that stretched along the coast from 's-Gravenzande to Alkmaar.
The forest borders the districts Mariahoeve and Marlot, Bezuidenhout, Benoordenhout, Stationsbuurt, and Centrum. The Haagse Bos was also called "de Houte". There is therefore regular talk about 'south' or 'north of 'De Hout'. Hence the districts Bezuidenhout and Benoordenhout. The forest is located on an old beach wall and stops where the peat starts. It is one of the 19 areas in The Hague that belong to a protected cityscape.
