The Vondelpark is the most famous city park in the Netherlands. Each year, it attracts about as many visitors as there are inhabitants in Belgium. Especially on Queen's Day, this park is worth a visit, particularly for children, because here you can play games invented and made by other children and buy many old toys.
In the 1960s, the current playgrounds were established, and in the 1980s, the open-air theater.
In 1996, the Vondelpark was recognized as a national monument.
The Vondelpark is designed in the English landscape style. It currently covers an area of 45 hectares. In 1953, the Association for the establishment of a riding and walking park transferred ownership of the Vondelpark to the municipality of Amsterdam for financial reasons.
