The Basilica of Our Lady of the Assumption dates back to the 11th century. It was once built within the walls of the original castrum, probably to replace a pagan Roman sanctuary. The gray cornerstones (see photo on the right) come from the Roman fort that stood on the site of the current church.
Probably in the 12th century, the floor in marl was added, which clearly differs from the coal sandstone of the oldest part.
