Medemblik ) is a town in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is located in West Friesland on the IJsselmeer. The city had a population of 8,505 on January 1, 2021. Medemblik is the oldest city in West Friesland: it was granted city rights in 1289 by Count Floris V of Holland, who at that time had just definitively subjugated West Friesland to his count's authority. Until 2007, Medemblik was an independent municipality, which did not include any other places of residence. The municipality was one of the smallest in the province of North Holland. The current municipality of Medemblik was formed from a merger with the municipalities of Noorder-Koggenland and Wognum on 1 January 2007, followed by a merger with the municipalities of Wervershoof and Andijk on 1 January 2011.
