Branderpad

In 1312, a church was founded in Zegveld on the reclamation axis (Hoofdweg) that had been laid out across the area between the Grecht and the Rietveldse Kade. Perpendicular to this, a free extending parcel was defined with the Broeker and Haak waterways as boundaries in the northwest.
The parceling of Zegvelderbroek has been reclaimed from the (Old) Meije and consists of two parts: Hoogenbroek with the continuous parceling between the Hazekade and the Middenweg, and Lagebroek with its distinctive fan-shaped parceling. Given the entirely contiguous parcels extending to the Haakwetering, one must have started from the Old Meije. Here, on the northeastern edge of the area, lay the early 12th-century settlement of Mi or Miland, whose church, dedicated to St. Martin, had already disappeared a century later. The farms, which initially stood along the (Old) Meije, have been moved far into the moorland at an early stage.
In contrast to the Ronde Venen, no new reclamation axis has been laid out here, but only a few access roads have been constructed from the Haakwetering, such as the Branderpad. Lagebroek was a true navigation polder, with the Slimmenwetering serving as the most important access route. The road that currently connects the farms was only constructed in 1958 during the extensive land consolidation.
