Sevenum

Traditionally, Sevenum is an agricultural village where there was already some settlement during the Bronze and Iron Ages (evidenced by several findings from that period). The oldest document mentioning Sevenum dates back to the year 1317.
In 1674, Sevenum became an independent lordship, which belonged to the Overkwartier of Gelre or Spanish Upper Gelre. During the War of Spanish Succession, the area was occupied by Prussian troops, and thus it remained German as part of Prussian Upper Gelre for about a century until the arrival of French troops. During that period, Sevenum was merged with Horst (Limburg); however, in 1836, the residents of Sevenum succeeded in becoming an independent municipality again.
From 1745, the reclamation of the wastelands began. In 1938, the reclamation was greatly intensified, resulting in the emergence of a new church village; Evertsoord (completed in 1959).
Today, over 80% of the land in the municipality of Sevenum is agricultural land. The municipality consists of the church villages of Sevenum, Kronenberg, and Evertsoord.
Venlo and Tegelen are just a stone's throw away. The municipality itself offers peace, space, and recreational opportunities.
Since 2001, the amusement park Toverland has been located in Park de Peelbergen.
