The Grote or St. Catharijne Church is a monumental unfinished Protestant parish church in Brielle in the Netherlands. The nave is an example of brick Gothic, while the tower is made of tuff stone. The first mention of the Katharinen church dates back to 1280. Archaeological evidence of the foundations of the choir of this church has also been confirmed from the 13th century. Construction of a large new church in the style of Brabantine Gothic began in 1417. In 1456, during the ongoing construction, the tower collapsed due to a fire. Between 1462 and 1482, the nave and tower took on their present form. Due to a lack of funds, construction on the church was halted in 1482 and was never resumed. The foundations for the transept had already been laid and have also been archaeologically proven to the east of the current provisional closure. Today, the house of worship terminates in the east with the completed two crossing pillars and a plain wall. Preliminary work for the vaulting, such as the installation of service bundles, has been carried out; however, the church has not received a vault except for the side aisles.
