Harlingen ) )) is a municipality in the Dutch province of Friesland. Adjacent municipalities are Waadhoeke in the northeast and Súdwest-Fryslân in the south. The municipality has 15,903 residents, of which approximately 14,810 live in the main town of Harlingen. The municipality of Harlingen has only three official cores, of which the city of Harlingen is by far the largest. Wijnaldum was part of the abolished municipality of Barradeel until January 1, 1984. The Dutch place names are the official ones.
