Gunterstein is a castle and country house located on the east side of the Utrechtse Vecht in the municipality of Breukelen.
The original castle was built around 1300 by Gijsbrecht Gunter van Lichtenbergh.
After the old castle Gunterstein was destroyed by French troops during the French occupation in 1673, the current house was built in 1680. After the death of the owner Engelbert Ploos van Amstel, the ruin was sold in 1680 to Magdalena Poulle (1632-1699), widow of Adriaan Daam.
The designer of the new Gunterstein was probably the Amsterdam architect Adriaan Dortsman (1635-1682). It was built in a late variant of Dutch classicism, the Sleek style.
