The Duffelt is the low-lying area between Nijmegen and Kleve. The region lies in the triangle of Nijmegen, Beek, Millingen aan de Rijn, and Kleve. The northern border is formed by the Waal and the Bijland Canal, while to the south, the area borders the Neder-Rhine Hills.
The Duffelt is a low-lying region, an ancient river floodplain characterized by wide views with farms on high terps. Before the construction of sturdy Rhine dikes, the lowest-lying parcels in this area were flooded annually during high water levels. The Duffelt includes both the Dutch parts of the floodplain and the German areas and can thus be considered a geographic unit with the Dutch Ooijpolder.
