Neede (Low Saxon: Nee) is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. About 9,700 people live in Neede (1 Jan 2008[1]). Until 2005, Neede was an independent municipality, but as a result of a municipal redivision, Neede was merged with the neighboring municipalities of Borculo, Eibergen and Ruurlo to form Berkelland. The former municipality of Neede was part of the framework law area Regio Twente, although it was officially located in the Achterhoek region of Gelderland. Nevertheless, Neede is closely intertwined with Twente in terms of dialect and orientation and forms a transitional municipality between Twente and the Achterhoek. Neede used to have many brick factories and an extensive textile industry. In addition, the famous jam factory of the Horticultural Society "Gelderland" was located there. Neede is nationally known for the National Jam Market that is held annually on the last Wednesday of the summer holidays in the center of the village. The election for the Jam Queen is also held here. She is the 'fruitiest' girl in the village and the face of the jam market for that year.
