Ulft

Ulft is a town in the municipality of Oude IJsselstreek in the Achterhoek, in the Dutch province of Gelderland. With 10,583 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011), the village is the largest place in the municipality of Oude IJsselstreek. Until January 1, 2005, Ulft belonged to the municipality of Gendringen. During the municipal reorganization in the Achterhoek, the municipalities of Gendringen and Wisch merged under the name Oude IJsselstreek. Ulft consists, apart from the eponymous village, of two hamlets: Oer and De Pol. Oer is in the north of Ulft, and is named so because of the iron (oer) in the ground. The DRU, an iron foundry, was also located in Oer. The DRU moved a few years ago to Duiven, and now has a location on the A12. In the old DRU building, there is now a library, restaurant, and theater. An iron museum and a hotel will also be established, and there will be residential development.
